Icyacumi

Icyacumi is a Kigali-based streetwear collective that emerged in 2025, bringing together local streetwear brands and creatives. The collective functions as a shared platform rather than a single-brand entity, facilitating collective presentation and exchange. Icyacumi operates within Kigali's contemporary streetwear landscape. Its activities bring multiple brands and practitioners into a common physical and cultural space. The collective engages audiences through public-facing formats.

Background

Icyacumi emerged from collaboration between the streetwear brands BONE™ and NATIVE1018, whose joint activities formed the basis of its early development. From this collaboration, the collective expanded to include designers, visual creatives, musicians, and other practitioners connected to streetwear culture in Kigali.

Brands and creatives participate as peers rather than as competitors, with participation open to different forms of creative contribution. Icyacumi functions as a gathering point where ideas, designs, and practices are presented side by side. Its activities are organised without a fixed hierarchy, allowing different formats, disciplines, and voices to coexist within a shared framework.

Mission

Icyacumi exists to foster collective visibility and shared presence within Kigali’s streetwear scene. It positions streetwear as a form of cultural expression rooted in lived experience, local authorship, and self-definition. Prioritising collaboration over competition, the collective creates space for multiple voices, practices, and creative directions to coexist within a shared cultural moment.

Cultural context

Icyacumi is situated within a broader shift in how streetwear functions in Kigali. Streetwear is increasingly described by participants as a means of expressing identity without conforming to external references. The collective is linked to a growing confidence in locally shaped creative identity. Its activities reflect wider conversations around youth expression, local authorship, and cultural self-definition. Icyacumi is positioned within an expanding creative ecosystem in Kigali, where collective initiatives play a role in shaping visibility and exchange.
