About
Samnkelo Mdledle is an artist, writer, journalist, broadcaster, and media sales executive whose multidisciplinary career has enabled him to carve out a distinct professional lane. He has published work in community newspapers, hip-hop magazines, and blogs, with early reporting focused on hard news in Alice, Eastern Cape, and surrounding areas. His first national accreditation came through a feature in Hype magazine, then South Africa's largest hip-hop publication. He later transitioned into community radio, where he developed his broadcasting skills as both journalist and radio presenter. Relocating to Johannesburg expanded his platform, allowing him to express his abilities across media and music.
From 2014 to 2019, he served as Marketing Assistant at SAFM, supporting the Marketing Manager across on-air, off-air, and digital platforms. His responsibilities included liaising with advertising agencies and clients to ensure campaigns ran smoothly and met production deadlines, compiling marketing business plans for events and partnerships, identifying and advising on web content development, updating and scheduling programme features, programming promotional material on the Dalet system, and ensuring marketing elements were accurately reflected across digital platforms in line with client agreements.
In 2013, he worked in Trade Marketing at the SABC, providing sales tools to the Group Sales and Marketing department. His portfolio included Audio Visual presentations, the Group Sales and Marketing website, and the internal newsletter, as well as involvement in the industry rate card, events, and workshops.
Within Audio Visual production, he created promotional presentations for new SABC properties and advertising opportunities showcased at workshops and industry roadshows, shot behind-the-scenes footage of local productions, covered special events, and collaborated with departments including Airtime Sales, Editorial, Production, Graphics, Video Library, and external production houses. He also drafted business cases and liaised with procurement and finance teams to ensure operational compliance.
For the Group Sales and Marketing website, he coordinated with the SABC BIT department on technical requirements, uploaded updated content via Websphere, and ensured the platform remained current. As part of the internal newsletter team, he sourced and copywrote features, selected supporting visuals, liaised with departments for content collation, and briefed design studios on concept and layout. His events responsibilities included attending trade marketing workshops and roadshows to oversee the technical execution of Audio Visual presentations, assisting with logistics and guest coordination, and building relationships with key clients.
In 2012, he lectured part-time at Damelin College, teaching Business Communication to second-year Public Relations students. Earlier, in 2008–2009, he worked on a Public Relations awareness campaign for Sharp! Magazine as part of his Public Relations and Corporate Communications coursework, conducting quantitative research and participating in industrial theatre performances to promote the publication. He also contributed to the NMMU Diversity Week campaign in August 2009, participating in industrial theatre addressing racial stereotypes, distributing promotional materials, and assisting in awareness-building initiatives.
